Decided to get some modifications to help the truck along with pulling this giant trailer. I've already put in a set of gauges (Exhaust Temp, Transmission Temp, and Turbo Boost)
I decided on a new S&B intake, a 4" turbo back exhaust, and a chip from www.DP-Tuner.com.
The chip has a stock mode, no start (theft deterrent), high idle (great for jump starting people, drive thru (quiets truck down when ordering), daily driver, tow mode, and decel (exhaust brake) mods. They are all great, but were chasing down an issue with it shifting at the wrong speeds.
The decel tune is my favorite. It closes the exhaust back pressure valve, and locks up the torque converter, thus using the engine to slow the truck down. This saves on smoking your service brakes on long down grades. We'll see plenty of those downgrades out West...
I've also flushed the power steering and hydro-boost with new fluid.
On the list are the following truck upgrades:
Install 6.0 transmission cooler (complete) Factory 9 row trans cooler on the left, Dorman 31 row trans cooler on the right. Huge difference, right? The new cooler drops the trans fluid temp by 30 degrees.
5th wheel tailgate (complete) I love this tailgate. So much easier to hitch and unhitch.
Front hitch on truck (complete)
4 bike rack for front hitch (complete)
I had to cut 10.5" of height off the rack. It was just too high to safely drive.
Before I cut the rack down.
After I cut the rack down.
Engine coolant flush (complete) What a messy job...
and a full transmission service (new filter and oil) (complete) Trans pan is pretty clean. It's been about 85,000 miles since I last dropped the pan for a servicing.
Camper upgrades coming soon:
Install 2,000w pure sine wave inverter (not yet)
Purchase portable satellite dish and two receivers (complete) -We bought a Pathfinder 2 with 2 receivers.
Morryde Cable Spooler (complete)
Ladder mount flag pole holder (complete )
King pin lube plate (complete)
